01Why not just recommend two tablespoons?+

Two tablespoons can be a useful rule of thumb for some products and machines, but detergent concentration varies. This tool uses your own package as the baseline instead of presenting one amount as universal.

02Does an HE washer always mean less detergent?+

HE machines use less water and require HE-compatible detergent, but the amount still depends on the product and washer directions. A MAX marking may be a model-specific dispenser limit or fill instruction; use the exact washer manual to interpret it.

03Can I divide a pod or sheet?+

Never cut, open or puncture a laundry detergent pod. Keep pods whole and follow the package and washer placement directions. Use a partial sheet only when that sheet’s label explicitly supports the fraction.

04What if I see residue or too many suds?+

Pause and consult the detergent label and washer manual. Residue can involve dosage, overloading, water temperature, detergent type or maintenance. The calculator cannot diagnose a washer problem.
